The other day I was scrolling through articles online and stumbled across one with the title “5 Reasons Your 20s Aren’t Meant to Withstand a Serious Relationship“. I literally thought to myself, wait. what? I decided to skim the article to see what it was about. It had multiple reasons listed as why you shouldn’t be in a serious relationship in your 20s—particularly that your 20s are the time to be selfish and not give up any aspect of who you are for someone else. Ok, I get that. I understand that lifestyle works for many people and that is totally cool. But, as a woman in my late 20s who is in a serious relationship, I need to address some secrets about being in long term relationships.
You already know that long term relationships are difficult. They require a lot of work and patience. You need to have open communication about nearly everything that sometimes may hurt your feelings. You have to be strong to be in a long term relationship. So with the recent simplicity of just swiping right, what is the point of putting so much effort into a relationship?
