When I was younger I dreamed of going to India, my father’s home country. That dream became a reality in 2013 when I was twenty-five and visited his home state Kerala. Since my first journey, I’ve been to Kerala two more times—once just a few weeks ago with Christoph.
It was Christoph’s first time to India, so I was a bit nervous as to whether he would like it or not. India is such a huge, vast and diverse country. I have only been to Kerala so I can’t comment on the other parts of India but it is definitely a sensory overload if you are not used to it!
Well, the good news is that Christoph loved being in Kerala. We had a great time together and I really have to thank my uncle and his lovely wife for all their hospitality. We ate a lot of great food, experienced many new things and saw many beautiful sites along the way. We documented as much as we could so you could get a feel for what life is like there. This video features footage mainly from Trivandrum and the surrounding area. But, there is plenty more to experience in Kerala so if you ever plan on visiting just ask me and I can share my best tips with you!
The main sites and key events during our trip were:
- wandering around and shopping in Trivandrum
- watching the sunset at Shanghumugham Beach
- spending an afternoon at Kovalam Beach
- taking a boat tour through the backwaters of Poovar
- riding the train to Varkala Beach
- celebrating Diwali.
